New Development Bank

In CGTN’s Women Shaping the Future series, President Dilma Rousseff discusses with host Tian Wei how empowering women in the Global South can drive real social and economic change. She highlights the New Development Bank’s BRICS origins and its focus on local-currency lending, infrastructure, and innovation to support developing countries.

Emphasising that women’s empowerment requires both family support and inclusive policies, she recalls the landmark 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, whose principles paved the way for women to access leadership roles worldwide. With the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women taking place in Beijing on 13 and 14 October, she calls for continued global action to advance gender equality.
