Importing from China can definitely take your business to the next level. All big players have some type of relationship with China and there is only one main reason for that: PROFIT.

Nevertheless, many organisations have failed on their attempt or have had issues while importing and the reason for that is very basic. Despite Chinese market can give your company great possibilities and an infinity range of suppliers to choose from it is not for beginners. That's why many companies fail. They believe that contact firms on Alibaba and trust on what they say or show as evidences for being a legitimate company is enough. It is not. Below, some tips of How to Import from China as a Expert:

1) It is advisable to have a Chinese foreign oriented company in China to represent you in front of the supplier.
Reason: Guarantee you have a professional there if any problem arise during the whole process. It gives a straight message to the supplier: "I am not a beginner and if you mess with me I will ...". I hope you got the meaning. Suppliers may not care that much about your business if they know you are not there to push them forward or to "fight" (if necessary). ;

2) Make sure the company is legitimate.
Reason: Even though, companies may have a great page on Alibaba full of certificates and pictures do not take that for granted. In China and other markets firms can easily fake those things.

3) For most imports you should carry an product quality inspection or factory audit.
Reason: First you must know if the company is able to supply your needs. Second, products should leave China only if they are exactly what you expect. The cost and time to sue a Chinese company or send the products back for remanufacturing is not worth.

4) Highly recommended to have a Chinese team to negotiate on your behalf.
Reason: Not only the case in China but for many other countries, suppliers may take some type of advantage if they know you are not local. They generally feel they have a competitive advantage if they are not negotiating with a "homie". Prices can drop down considerably some times.

I know it seems cheaper to do it yourself but it can become a catastrophe many times. Unfortunately, not all companies have this mentality of win-win and you must be aware of that.

Is it better do not import from China then? Not at all. However, these tips were created for you to behave as an expert and not a beginner on this game. Follow them and your chances to change your business to the next level will considerably increase.
