One-Stop Planning for Refractive Cataract Surgery: The Next Frontier!
A 62-year-old male cataract patient presented with bilateral central disc-shaped lens opacity and normal macular structure (fig. 2). A new generation dynamic swept-source optical biometer ( , TowardPi ) was used for precise preoperative measurements and lens calculation for this patient.
Based on 25kHz dynamic panoramic axial SS-OCT imaging, comprehensive parameters, including true axial length, anterior chamber depth, white-to-white, corneal topography, lens analysis and so on, were acquired with one scan (fig. 1). Anterior and posterior corneal axial curvature were measured and cross-validated with Keratography, confirming 0.4 D@117° astigmatism in the right eye and 0.17 D@127° in the left eye (fig. 3). Using IOL optimization function on the device, full corneal aberration analysis, kappa angle, and lens tilt were further evaluated (fig. 4), confirming that the patient met the criteria for an extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL. IOL power was calculated and cross-validated using the built-in Kane and EVO 2.0 formulas, and Barrett Universal II (online) to ensure precision (fig. 5).
One day post-surgery, the patient achieved uncorrected visual acuity of 1.0 in both eyes, with clear corneas, well-positioned and transparent IOLs, and no complaints of glare or halos.
