The last mango was not worth a police report.

I was at Marché Sandaga in Douala, hand hovering over the final golden mango, when another hand, bigger, faster, belonging to a man in a 'Jesus Saves' t-shirt, landed on it too.

We stared. My brain wrote a whole action movie: slow-mo lunge, mango juice flying, market women filming for TikTok.

Then he sighed, "My wife sent me. If I come home empty, I sleep outside."

I laughed. So did he. We split it, half for his wife, half for my pride.

No punches, no viral shame, just sticky fingers and a new friend who now sells me plantains cheap.

Peace didn't make me weak. It made me fed.

Turns out, choosing calm is the only fight where everybody wins.

Lesson: strife costs you the whole fruit; peace lets you share it, and sometimes get plantains on the side😁.
