UBa Student, Graduate Killed in Fresh Shooting as Insecurity Deepens
A female student of the University of Bamenda and a motorcycle rider have been shot dead in Bambui in a fresh incident that has heightened concerns over worsening insecurity along the Bambui-Bambili axis.
The victims have been identified as Mireille, a Level 100 student of Modern Letters at the University of Bamenda, and Khan Genesis Tezekwoh, a recent graduate of the Higher Technical Teachers Training College (HTTTC) Bambili, Class of 2025.
According to accounts from residents and information circulating among students, the incident occurred on the morning of June 8, 2026. Reports indicate that Mireille was returning to Bambili after spending the previous day celebrating her birthday and had reportedly decided to return because of an academic assignment due for submission.
Witnesses and local sources allege that before the shooting involving the student and the rider, suspected non-state armed men had intercepted another man in the area. Reports suggest the man was forcefully taken away but attempted to escape after causing a fall from the motorcycle on which he was being transported near Bambui Hospital.
Acording to facts gathered by FactLine Media, tje man was reportedly shot in the leg during the escape and sought refuge at Bambui Hospital before being transferred to the Regional Hospital in Bamenda for further treatment.
Shortly afterward, according to the same sources, the armed men allegedly encountered the motorcycle carrying Mireille and Khan Genesis Tezekwoh. Gunshots were reportedly fired, killing both occupants instantly.
The bodies of the two victims have since been deposited at the Bambili Mortuary.
The incident adds to a growing list of security concerns in the area. Residents recall that on Monday last week, suspected armed men reportedly seized about four motorcycles along the Bambui-Bambili road. On May 31, another resident of Bambui was reportedly shot dead in neighbouring Bambili.
The latest killings have reignited fears among students, transport operators and residents who depend on the road corridor linking Bambui and Bambili. Many are calling for stronger security measures to protect civilians and restore confidence in movement within the area.
