SHIELD Project | Module 2 – Risk Management and Physical Protection
Yesterday, January 15, 2026, Girls 4 Development participated in the second training module of the SHIELD Project, focused on risk management and the physical protection of human rights defenders (HRDs).
The session aimed to identify physical risks faced by HRDs, including assaults, theft, intimidation, torture, and death threats, as well as individual prevention measures (secure communication, planned and discreet movements) and organizational prevention measures (premises security, access control, and security protocols).
Participants also discussed incident response mechanisms (alerts, safety measures, reporting, documentation) and the strong link between physical and digital security, as digital breaches can lead to physical threats, just as physical risks may target sensitive data.
The STOP method (Stop – Think – Observe – Proceed) emphasized the need to think before acting, given the sensitive information handled by HRDs.
The training was highly interactive, with rich discussions, experience sharing, and strong commitments.
🙏🏽 Thanks to HURAC. Girls 4 Development look forward to the next training modules.
