Hasrun was just 22 years old when her husband and his family tied a kerosene-soaked scarf around her neck and lit it on fire in Nepal. CARE and other local organizations paid for her transfer to a government hospital where she could receive the best treatment.

Hasrun remained in the hospital for 5 months. Meanwhile, with pressure coming from human rights organizations, Hasrun's husband and in-laws were immediately taken into custody. Now, they are in prison. Although Hasrun will have scars for the rest of her life, the human rights organizations arranged for her to receive treatment for free!

When Hasrun was better, CARE and a local organization bought her a sewing machine. She plans to open a small tailoring shop so she can support her children and send them to school. Hasrun has a 4-year-old daughter, Samrin, and a 2-year-old son, Samar.

Today, Hasrun is an inspiration to other survivors of gender-based violence. She participated in the national forum to tell her story. "It's a new birth for me and this was only possible due to the help and support of Fatima, CARE and other supporting organizations who saved my life. Thank you very much for reviving me," she said.
