Is our legacy for future generations a lifetime of more intense, more frequent heatwaves?

🚨Currently, 95% of losses from recorded economic disasters are due to one of the “big five” hazards: earthquakes, floods, storms, droughts... and extreme heat.

And the frequency and intensity of climate-hazard events are growing: What qualifies as a 1-in-100-year heatwave in 2050 will be more intense than a similar return period event today.

What can be done?
✅Scale up investment in resilience and adaptation
✅Engage the private sector in co-investing
✅Support context-specific adaptive strategies
✅Prioritize high-benefit, low-cost interventions
✅Increase the share of ODA dedicated to disaster risk reduction

Disaster risk reduction works best when everyone's efforts connect. 🤝

The Sendai Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM) brings together people, communities and organisations to coordinate action, share knowledge and shape DRR policy – from global frameworks to local interventions.

It amplifies voices that matter: women, persons with disabilities, and those most exposed to risk.

The SEM is designed to make stakeholder engagement more inclusive, better coordinated, and accountable to those most at risk.🎯
