75 years of the Refugee Convention.
Professor Vincent Chetail, Director of the Global Migration Centre, marks the anniversary with a new essay published with Opinio Juris, as part of a global symposium convened by UNHCR.
As he writes, the Refugee Convention is "neither a relic of the past nor a panacea for the future. It is an imperfect instrument for an imperfect world." Seventy-five years on, the moral clarity that produced it is more needed, not less.

As part of the Director’s Global Leadership for Peace Series, the Institute hosted Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency, an alumnus of the Institute and one of five candidates to be the Next UN SG.
In his keynote address, Rafael Grossi reflected on the critical importance of multilateral organisations and the leadership required to ensure their continued relevance and effectiveness in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Grossi addressed the necessity of reform in bringing the United Nations “back to the table” in key international negotiations and cutting through silos in order to remind the world that the UN is more than a verification agency. Concretely, he spoke of the need for hashtag and gave examples of how the IAEA has gone from having 28% women when he became Director General to 53% today.
The opening remarks were delivered by Director Marie Laure SALLES, followed by Professor Grégoire Mallard's introduction, evoking Grossi's time at the Institute and his more than forty years of experience in nuclear hashtag .
