Institutional reform, security sector training, and strengthening judicial independence — these are the real guarantees that such tragedies will not happen again.

International law requires authorities to respect the principles of necessity and proportionality and to safeguard the right to life. The use of lethal force to disperse civilian protests has no legal justification.

🔴 | SAM calls for urgent and independent investigations into the killing of young man Manaf Ba-Sabeen and the injury of another person by gunfire from military forces while dispersing peaceful protests in , as well as the head injury sustained by Naseem Al-Yafei in .

The use of live ammunition against civilian protesters is a clear violation of international human rights standards and cannot be justified.

We call for accountability for those responsible, medical care for the injured, and the protection of the right to peaceful assembly.

The continued detention by the Houthi group of staff working with international, UN, and humanitarian organizations, including Sami Lutf Al-Kalabi, constitutes a grave violation of international law and a direct threat to their safety, particularly amid growing reports of deteriorating health conditions inside detention facilities.

SAM renews its call on the Houthi group to immediately release all arbitrarily detained individuals, foremost among them UN and humanitarian workers.
