CIFAL Málaga Recognizes High School Students with Certificates for Their Participation in the First Phase of the Training Programme on Civic Participation and Peacebuilding Processes on 9 June 2026.

The Malaga City Councillor for Citizen Participation, Ms Mar Torres, and the Communications Officer of CIFAL Málaga, Mr Francisco M. Pastor, presided today over the certificate award ceremony held in the City Council’s Plenary Hall. The event recognized participants in the first cycle of training seminars aimed at high school students, which took place during April and May.

With the aim of strengthening young people's knowledge and engagement in building more just and sustainable societies, CIFAL Malaga, with the support of the Málaga City Council, launched a series of training seminars for high school students.

These learning sessions addressed key topics such as citizenship, democracy, civic participation, and a culture of peace, establishing direct links with the principles of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes strong institutions, justice, and peace. Civic education for young people is essential to ensuring their active role in decision-making processes and in driving social transformation through a participatory and responsible approach.

Each seminar combined theoretical and practical components, encouraging critical analysis of current challenges related to democratic participation, governance, and human rights. Through dynamic methodologies such as debates, case studies, and simulations, participants developed their capacity for reflection and argumentation, enabling them to better understand how they can influence their communities and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

♻️✨ Turning waste into creativity, one thread at a time!

As part of CIFAL Istanbul's Zero Waste Week, young participants came together at Fırat Neziroğlu's Atelier for the “Zero-Waste Fashion: Textile Upcycling Workshop”, organized under the auspices of the Zero Waste Foundation and the Governorship of Istanbul in collaboration with the CIFAL Istanbul Youth Platform, and Bahçeşehir University.

From inspiring discussions on sustainable fashion, responsible consumption, and circular design to a hands-on upcycling experience, participants discovered how discarded textiles can be transformed into meaningful works of art. A heartfelt thank you to Fırat Neziroğlu for sharing his expertise, inspiration, and passion for sustainable textile practices. 🧵

The CIFAL Global Network encourages such initiatives. Indeed, through creativity, collaboration, and learning, the workshop empowered young people to embrace zero-waste principles and rethink the future of fashion. 🌿

CIFAL Brussels: Empowering Next-Generation Voices through EU Political Literacy! ✨

On May 28th, the second session of our high-level EU Political Literacy Seminar successfully came to a close! Hosted as a core pillar of the ACTIVATE programme, this immersive workshop gave passionate young participants a deep dive into the foundational structures, democratic values, and shifting policies of the European Union, while offering them an unparalleled seat at the table with frontline diplomats.

🌟 Bridging Youth Engagement and Diplomatic Dialogue:

A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished guest speakers, Gaetan Poelman (Diplomatic Representative of Flanders to the European Union) and Tom De Smedt (Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Belgium), who joined us to engage directly with the youth and answer their pressing questions on the future of Europe. We are incredibly inspired by all the students who brought their energy, sharp critical thinking, and collaborative spirit to the seminar, especially while navigating their demanding exam schedules!

🚀 Shaping Future Leaders for the 2030 Agenda:

In alignment with UNITAR and the CIFAL Global Network's objectives, the ACTIVATE programme is designed to bridge the gap between youth and international decision-making ecosystems. By cultivating political literacy and democratic engagement, we are directly advancing SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Empowering the next generation with the tools to navigate global governance ensures they are ready to lead our communities toward a more inclusive, stable, and sustainable future. We can't wait to see you all at our next workshop, which will tackle the crucial frontier of digital resilience! 💻💡🤝
