Job opportunities available for migrants in Libya have precarious working conditions, lacking formality, stability, security and social protections.

🔸 66% of respondents reported wage theft or not being paid on time, and 39% reported that they did not receive payment at all.

🔸 Only 20% of respondents were able to cover their needs while in Libya, and only 15% were able to save money.

📝 Our research examining the economic situation of migrants in shows that economic factors play a crucial role in their decision-making.

🔹77% of our respondents cited economic reasons as a primary reason for leaving their country of origin, interplaying with other factors such as violence, insecurity and conflict (41%), and a prevailing culture of (39%).

🔹More than half of respondents decided to stop in Libya for work to finance their onward journey.

🔹78% of all respondents stated that they selected their intended destination because they anticipated finding better economic opportunities and/or generally experiencing a higher standard of living (65%) there.

Educational realities and needs of migrant children and youth in West and North Africa 25/06/2024

📝 Our new paper explores the realities and needs of migrant children and in West and North Africa. The study is based on a quantitative analysis through interviews with youth and migrants traveling with children in Bamako, Conakry, Niamey and Tunis.

Key findings include:
🏫 Access to education for migrant children in the four cities of interview is limited
💭 Educational aspirations only play a minor role in migration decision-making among youth respondents compared to economic factors
👩‍👦‍👦 Access to formal or informal education is the most frequent need expressed by caregivers for the children in their care (29%)
🎓 The probability of using regular migration pathways rises with higher education levels.

📝 Notre nouveau rapport explore les réalités et besoins en matière d’ des enfants et des jeunes ∙e∙s en Afrique de l’Ouest et du Nord. Cette étude est basée sur une analyse quantitative à travers des entretiens avec des jeunes migrant∙e∙s et des migrant∙e∙s voyageant avec des enfants à Bamako, Conakry, Niamey et Tunis.

Les principales conclusions incluent :
🏫 L’accès à l’éducation pour les enfants migrant∙e∙s dans les quatre villes d’entretien est limité
💭 Les aspirations en matière d’éducation ne jouent qu’un rôle mineur dans la prise de décision en matière de migration parmi les jeunes interrogé∙e∙s, contrairement aux facteurs économiques
👩‍👦‍👦 L’accès à une éducation formelle ou informelle arrive en tête des besoins exprimés par les accompagnant∙e∙s pour les enfants dont ils/elles ont la charge avec 29% d’entre eux/elles qui expriment ce besoin
🎓 La probabilité d’utiliser des voies de migration régulières augmente avec le niveau d’éducation.
