Another highlight from our 6th International Collective Action Conference was, without a doubt, the visit of these three young students from 🇲🇩 Moldova.

They are volunteers from the Voluntari anticorupție ai CNA. Thanks to the “Youth Against Corruption Exchange” initiative co-organised with the OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, they had the opportunity to visit the Basel Institute's Headquarters, the University of Basel and attend the conference.

The heart of the exchange was an inspiring debate on the intersection of youth, technology and anti-corruption. Our team led sessions on corruption prevention and asset recovery challenges, including virtual assets. At the university, the students explored the complex dynamics of democracy, state capture and public accountability, before attending the various panels and events of our Collective Action Conference.

Everyone was delighted with their intelligence, confidence and, above all, their commitment. They are a true breath of hope and fresh air in the global fight against corruption.

We hope this experience serves as a catalyst for their journey and inspires them to continue leading the way toward a more transparent and just world.

We are pleased to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and Fight Against Corruption (الهيئة الوطنية للنزاهة ومحاربة الرشوة) of the 🇲🇦 Kingdom of Morocco.

Signed by Mohamed Benalilou, President of the INPPLC, and Elizabeth Andersen, Executive Director of the Basel Institute of Governance, this agreement establishes a framework for cooperation to prevent and combat corruption, and to foster integrity and good governance.

We look forward to supporting the Moroccan authorities in their efforts to strengthen the country's response to financial crime for the benefit of its citizens.

The signing was witnessed by Peter Maurer, President of the Board of the Basel Institute, and Yassir Chokairi, Cooperation and Development Director at the INPPLC.

What are corruption sanctions and where do they stand today?

Following the publication of a new paper by Dr Anton Moiseienko, join us this 18 June to discuss:

🔸 How have corruption sanctions developed, and where do they stand today?
🔸 What would it take for more states to adopt them?
🔸 How can existing regimes be strengthened to ensure they are used credibly, consistently and in a manner that upholds the rule of law?

For this conversation, we are delighted to bring together an exceptional group of experts:

- Dr Anton M., Associate Professor of Law, ANU Law School
- Sir William Browder KCMG, Hermitage Capital Management, Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign, Magnitsky Justice Foundation
- Michael O'Kane, Senior Partner, Peters & Peters
- Lyra N., Senior Legal Advisor, REDRESS

🎙️ Moderator: Andrew Dornbierer, Head of Policy and Research, ICAR, Basel Institute on Governance
