📢 Call for Papers: Oncogenic Viruses in Animals and Zoonotic Risks
Oncogenic viruses cause significant disease in livestock, companion animals, and wildlife – but some can also cross species barriers, raising concerns within the One Health framework.
This Special Issue of Viruses welcomes original research and reviews on:
-Mechanisms of viral oncogenesis
-Cross-species infection and host-switch events
-Zoonotic transmission of animal viruses
-Potential links between animal viruses and human cancers
Retroviruses such as bovine leukemia virus (BLV) and mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) – with their hypothetical association with human breast cancer – are of particular interest, as are papillomaviruses and polyomaviruses.

Oropouche virus is spreading across Latin America, but little is known about it. This study followed an infected traveler for 177 days and found that viral RNA cleared from serum within 15 days, but persisted in urine for 1 month, semen for 3 months, and whole blood for 4 months – with evidence of active replication throughout.

Persistence and Active Replication Status of Oropouche Virus in Different Body Sites: Longitudinal Analysis of a Traveler Infected with a Strain Spreading in Latin America An unprecedented outbreak of Oropouche virus (OROV) is occurring in the Americas, characterized by thousands of confirmed cases and a wide geographical spread, including areas outside the Amazon Basin. Little is known about this neglected arbovirus regarding its pathophysiological aspects and potent...

A six-year (2018–2024) analysis of seasonal influenza in Shenzhen shows how COVID-19 NPIs disrupted circulation—sharp decline during the pandemic, then a strong rebound. Genetic divergence from vaccine strains and key antigenic drift events in H3N2 and B/Victoria were also observed.

Analysis of Epidemiological and Evolutionary Characteristics of Seasonal Influenza Viruses in Shenzhen City from 2018 to 2024 The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the implementation of associated non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) profoundly altered the epidemiology of seasonal influenza viruses. To investigate these changes, we analyzed influenza-like illness samples in Shenzhen, China, across six influenza seasons spanning 2...
