The Winnipeg Arts Council is seeking a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit artist with a meaningful connection to Winnipeg to create a permanent public artwork and plaza space on the Broadway median in Winnipeg, on Treaty 1 Territory and the Homeland of the Red River Métis.
Winnipeg marked its 150th anniversary in 2024, creating an opportunity to reflect on the city. This project invites Indigenous artists to imagine a shared future rooted in place, relationship, and Indigenous presence. Artists are encouraged to think about how their work can welcome people, share stories, reflect a connection to the city and these lands, and/or spark dialogue while celebrating Indigenous joy.
The artwork will be selected through a two-stage process, with the first stage focused on the artist’s approach and qualifications. There is a significant budget, so team-based approaches are welcome.
