If it has been a while since your child has had an eye exam, there is no bad time to book one. Eye issues are not always obvious, and kids do not always know how to explain what they are seeing. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends an exam between 6 and 9 months, at least one between ages 2 and 5, and yearly after starting school. That is a pretty good reminder that staying current matters.

If something gets in your eye, the first rule is simple. Do not rub it. Blinking and clean water or saline are usually the safest first steps for a small bit of dust or debris. But if something is stuck, came in at high speed, or your vision changes, that is not a wait and see situation. Get it checked properly. Eyes are not the place for guesswork.
