Cybersecurity Throwback Thursday: The Email That Crashed The World. 💌💻

Back in 2000's, millions of people opened an email titled “ILOVEYOU.”

Subject: ILOVEYOU
Body: “kindly check the attached LOVELETTER coming from me”
Attachment: LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs

People opened it thinking it was a sweet message… but it was actually a malicious script.

But that one click triggered one of the most damaging cyberattacks in history.

The attachment secretly:
⚠️ Overwrote files
⚠️ Stole passwords
⚠️ Sent itself to every contact in your email
⚠️ Spread across the globe in HOURS

Governments, banks, and major corporations were forced to shut down email systems.

Estimated damage? $5–10 BILLION worldwide.

So what’s the lesson today?

Cyber threats don’t always look suspicious.
They look familiar. Urgent. Personal.

Before you click:
🔐 Always verify the sender
🔐 Don’t open unexpected attachments
🔐 Watch for emotional or urgent language
🔐 When in doubt, don’t click
