Between Two Buns

The Smith is a lively, casual restaurant in midtown Manhattan. Their menu is versatile and includes everything from oysters to chicken pot pie. There are two burgers to choose from - a veg and quinoa option and a classic beef burger. I made the obvious and usual choice. I requested it be cooked medium. The burger was served on a toasted potato bun which was light and fluffy. The beef patty was cooked to my liking and topped with their delicious house made “TSB sauce” . The TSB sauce consists of mayonnaise, lemon, garlic and salt - my only wish was that there had been more of it. Crispy onions added crunch and a hint of salt to the burger elevating the flavour exponentially. A melted cheddar cheese slice was generously placed on top of the patty adding a simple and mild flavour. The burger patty itself was the star of this dish as it was juicy, flavourful and although lighter than the average burger, still filling. Below the patty was a single piece of lettuce preventing the juices of the patty from soaking into the bun. The burger was plated with a side of shoestring fries and for midtown Manhattan was reasonably priced.

Burger 67 is a well known Amherstburg establishment with a variety of unique burgers to choose from. I decided to try their signature (and most popular) burger, the Amherstburg'er. Turns out, it’s fantastic. Starting from the top, the brioche bun was perfectly toasted on the inside and soft on the outside. The single patty was remarkable; entirely juicy and with delicious seasoning. Topping the beef patty was a slice of mozzarella cheese AND a slice of american cheddar, both flawlessly melted. The lettuce paired perfectly with the caramelized onions. There was comfort and flavour in every single bite with the help of the crisp and savoury bacon. What takes this burger from good to great is the combination of their sweet barbecue sauce and fried jalapeños. The savoury barbecue sauce is thin and light - with the slight heat from the fried jalapeños it countered a perfect balance that will leave you wanting more. This high quality burger came with choice of a side and was averagely priced. Final rating 9.8/10
