The Windsor Police Association joins the policing community in mourning the tragic loss of Constable in Training Tyrone Magbitang of the Durham Regional Police Service.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Tyrone’s family, friends, colleagues, and all members of the Durham Regional Police Service during this unimaginable time of loss.

Tyrone’s dedication to a life of service, his commitment to helping others, and his dream of becoming a police officer are a testament to the kind of person he was. Although his time in policing was far too short, the impact he made will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

We stand beside our fellow members in Durham and across Ontario as we honour Tyrone’s memory and support those grieving this heartbreaking loss.

Rest in peace, Tyrone. Your commitment to service will never be forgotten.

The Durham Regional Police Service is profoundly saddened by the tragic death of Constable in Training (CIT) Tyrone Magbitang, 27, who was involved in a motor vehicle collision while travelling to the Ontario Police College on July 7, 2026.

CIT Magbitang joined the Durham Regional Police Service as a Special Constable in May 2023. In April of this year, he took the next step toward achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer when he was selected as a police constable recruit.

Tyrone was a compassionate, dedicated, and service-driven individual who believed deeply in helping others and making a positive difference in the community. Following his Police Foundations education, he pursued a career in public safety with determination, humility, and an unwavering commitment to serving those around him.

Although his time with our Service was far too short, Tyrone made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. He will be remembered for his kindness, professionalism, and the tremendous potential he brought to our organization. His loss is deeply felt throughout the Durham Regional Police Service and the wider policing community.

Today, CIT Magbitang will be transported from London, Ontario, to the Centre for Forensic Sciences (CFS) in Toronto. Loved ones and members of the Durham Regional Police Service will accompany him as a mark of respect and in recognition of his service and commitment to the profession he aspired to join.

On behalf of the Durham Regional Police Service, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Tyrone’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. We mourn alongside them and remain committed to supporting all those affected by this unimaginable loss.

We respectfully ask that the privacy of Tyrone’s family and those mourning his loss be honoured during this difficult time.

Recent tragedies remind us that no police family should have to face loss alone. SOLE stands beside the spouses of fallen officers, providing support, connection, and hope during life’s most difficult moments. Their work is truly invaluable.

The Windsor Police Association (WPA) was proud to present Survivors of Law Enforcement (SOLE) with a cheque for over $7,500, raised during WPA’s social night at the PAO’s Annual Meeting & Convention in May.

SOLE provides vital support to the spouses, families and loved ones of officers killed in the line of duty, work that is especially meaningful in times like these.

Glen’s 33 years of dedicated service as a 911 Emergency Communicator he exemplified compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his community. His legacy will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. Our thoughts are with the entire GSPS family during this difficult time.

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Glen Sonier, Badge #7660, a beloved and deeply respected member of our GSPS family.

For close to 33 years, Glen dedicated his life to protecting and serving our community as a 9-1-1 Emergency Communications professional. Since joining our Service in 1993, he stood firmly on what is often called the “thin gold line,” the vital connection between those in need and those who respond. In that role, Glen was often the calm, steady voice people heard on some of their worst days. With compassion, professionalism, and unwavering focus, he provided reassurance in moments of crisis and helped ensure the safety of both our community and our officers.

In 2023, Glen was recognized by the Police Association of Ontario with the “On-Duty Difference Maker – Civilian Police Service Employee” award, reflecting the dedication and care he brought to every call, every shift and every person he served. Those who worked alongside him knew this wasn’t just what he did; it was who he was.

Glen was an integral part of our policing family, known for his kindness, empathy, and ability to bring humour and light into difficult moments. He supported and uplifted those around him, leaving a lasting impression through the genuine care he showed to both the public and our team.

Beyond his role, Glen was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend whose warmth and generosity touched so many. His presence made a difference both on and off the line.

Glen’s impact on our Service and the community he served is immeasurable. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on in those who knew and loved him.
