Kwigw8mna à l’Université Bishop’s

Nous sommes ravis de voir les fruits de notre collaboration avec les étudiants autochtones, la communauté et l’Université Bishop’s pour créer le premier centre étudiant autochtone au Québec.

«Kwigw8mna, qui signifie “notre maison à toutes et à tous” en abénaki, transforme ainsi le bâtiment Divinity House, autrefois dédié à la formation du clergé, en un espace où les étudiantes et étudiants autochtones se rassemblent, apprennent et trouvent du soutien. Ce lieu reflète les perspectives, les traditions et les besoins des Autochtones, favorisant un sentiment d’appartenance tout en créant des opportunités de compréhension interculturelle.»

«L’Université Bishop’s célèbre aujourd’hui l’inauguration de Kwigw8mna. Cet édifice abritera le Centre de soutien aux membres de la communauté étudiante autochtone, un espace d’étude pour les étudiantes et les étudiants autochtones, des espaces de rassemblement ainsi qu’un laboratoire de recherche autochtone. Cette inauguration marque un jalon important dans l’engagement de l’Université Bishop’s envers le soutien aux étudiantes et étudiants autochtones, la vérité et la réconciliation.»

We are so excited to see the fruits of our close collaboration with the Indigenous students, community, and Bishop’s University to create the first Indigenous student center in Quebec.

“Meaning ‘our house and yours’ in Abenaki, Kwigw8mna transforms Divinity House, a building once associated with training clergy, into a space where Indigenous students gather, learn, and find support. The space reflects Indigenous perspectives, traditions, and needs, fostering a sense of belonging while creating opportunities for cross-cultural understanding.”
