It was so quiet and peaceful when Michael was out sampling biogas, he was able to snap a picture of this cute critter from his spot next to the digester!

Did you know that the weather can affect your anaerobic digester? Sustained heat or cold can dramatically alter your feedstock, cause operational challenges, and hamper biogas production. Through our work across Canada, the USA, and Mexico, we’ve seen first-hand how your local climate impacts your business model.

Happy International Women in Engineering Day! As women continue to be underrepresented in engineering professions, June 23rd is a day to shine a spotlight on their achievements to inspire the next generation of engineers.

The theme for 2026 is “Engineering Intelligence” which absolutely describes our own Trisha Aldovino! The driving force behind Azura Academy, Trisha specializes in taking complex technical information and transforming it into digestible education. She has designed courses, webinars, workshops, and learning materials to bring biogas knowledge to new audiences. Trisha has been part of since 2024 and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her as a key part of our technical team!

As the need to divert organic waste from landfills grows, co-digestion is gaining traction. Municipalities can put unused capacity in existing wastewater assets to work as a cost-effective strategy to preserve landfill capacity and mitigates greenhouse gas emissions.

However, co-digestion is more complicated than simply feeding new material to your digesters. In this article, Michael highlights several ancillary equipment components required to make co-digestion practical.

Can your digester handle more fat? Fatty feedstocks can produce higher biogas yields but they can also bring operational challenges like foam and acidification.

We have helped many digesters increase gas production by increasing fat loading. Their great operators achieve reliable, boring stability at:

1. HRT around 18 days

2. Fat at about 20% of the total mixed ration (TMR) fed to the digester

With the right combination of technology, feedstock, and knowhow, there is a chance that you could too.

Ready to add fat in your digester? Email Azura at [email protected]. Send your weekly feed volumes, feedstock loading rates, and current digester configuration, and we’ll help you assess your plant's ability to digest fat and map a conservative high-fat ramp plan tailored to your site.
