First-year Honours Math student Benjamin Wen is gaining global experience through co-op.
During his work term at Nice CART, an agri-tech company within theJiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, Benjamin has applied the skills he’s learned at the University of Waterloo to real-world projects while exploring new career paths and depending his understanding of work-integrated learning.
His experience shows how Waterloo Math students turn classroom learning into real-world impact.

This summer our faculty and the University of Waterloo were honoured to host the EDGE for Women program, a one-month intensive program that provides mentorship and training to women and gender-minority students at the beginning of their PhDs.
The EDGE program was created in 1998 by Sylvia Bozeman and Rhonda Hughes to help counter high attrition rates among female students in mathematics. “It’s an intensive crash course intended to prepare students for success in their PhD programs,” explains Dr. Anila Yadavalli, local director of this year’s program and an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the Centre for Mathematics and Computing at Waterloo.

Congratulations to two Waterloo Region high school student teams celebrating landmark achievements in the 2026 Technovation Girls competition!
For the first time in the Waterloo chapter’s history, a team has advanced to the Technovation Girls World Summit, taking place in Bengaluru, India in October 2026, where they will compete against top student teams from around the world.
Congratulations to team Power Puck Girls, whose app CareCompass earned them a place among the world’s best teams.
Congratulations as well to team The Stellar Squad, whose app Community Care Loop earned them a second-place finish in the intermediate-level division in North America.
