Today is ! November 18th has been selected to celebrate and highlight the work and barriers of LGBTQIA+ people in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM).

The date is symbolic of the 60th anniversary of American Astronomer and gay activist Frank Kameny’s US Supreme Court fight against workplace discrimination. This is a fight that continues today, and we encourage you to do your part in creating safer and more inclusive spaces in STEM.

Purpose:

The Rainbow Centre in Waterloo is a safer space on campus available to all students, faculty, staff, administrators and visitors who are 2SLGBTQ+ identified, q***r-friendly or allies. We offer a space to house resources, hold meetings, and, most importantly, provide the opportunity to engage in discourse in an open and positive environment.
Come by the Rainbow Centre if you’re looking for 1 to 1 support or connection to other resources. Additionally you may study, hang out, and chat with others.

• Asexual people exist on a spectrum
• “Allosexual” (a term for people who are not asexual)
• Asexuality is an intrinsic part of who people are; not a choice
• Asexuality is different from romantic orientations

• Asexual: Asexuality is a sexual orientation where a person experiences little to no sexual attraction to anyone and/or does not experience desire for sexual contact.

•Demisexual: Demisexual is an orientation where a person can only experience sexual attraction if a strong emotional bond is present.

•Grey-asexual: Gray-asexuality encompasses a wide range of experiences such as experiencing sexual attraction rarely, under specific circumstances, or sexual attraction that fluctuates over time.
