Hey B.C. anglers, here's an opportunity to provide feedback on which resource roads and road systems are most important for fishing access across the province, where access is at risk, and what practical solutions may be needed. 🌲🚗🎣

So many of our province's trout lakes, remote rivers, and favorite camping spots are only reachable by using resource roads. To ensure access to recreation is recognized and prioritized, the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) and partner recreation organizations have launched the BC Resource Road Access Survey.

They are gathering vital local knowledge from outdoor users, recreation groups, and anglers to identify the roads and systems that matter most to us.

Your feedback will help identify:

🗺️ Roads currently used for backcountry recreation and fishing access.

⚠️ Roads at risk of closure, decommissioning, or deactivation.

🛑 Areas where access has already been lost or made difficult.

💡 Common barriers and practical solutions to maintain access.

Whether you have exact maps or just want to share your stories, photos, and best estimates, your input is incredibly valuable to the future of angling access in B.C.

Much of BC’s backcountry is reached by resource roads.

These roads connect people to trails, lakes, rivers, cabins, recreation sites, backcountry areas, rural communities and outdoor tourism destinations. But no government agency is specifically responsible for keeping resource roads open for recreation.

That is why ORCBC and partner recreation organizations have launched the BC Resource Road Access Survey.

We are asking recreation groups, businesses, tourism, communities and outdoor users to share local knowledge about the roads and road systems that matter most for recreation access across BC.

The survey will help identify:
- roads currently used for recreation access
- roads at risk of closure or deactivation
- roads where access has already been lost or made difficult
- common barriers and practical solutions

Local knowledge, best estimates, photos, maps, examples and stories are all helpful.

A Fishing Forever event, hosted by BC Wildlife Federation at the Kootenay Trout Hatchery Visitor Centre near Cranbrook, is happening this Saturday, June 27th. The Fishing Forever program provides an opportunity where people with diverse abilities can learn, or continue, to fish and enjoy the outdoors. Just a reminder that the 2nd Annual "Fishing Accessible to All" event will be taking place at our Hatchery Trout Pond this Saturday! The event will be hosted by BCWF Fishing Forever Program and supported by our Outreach staff.
