I’m satisfied with my work today.
Just 2.5 years ago, I started in plumbing with absolutely zero knowledge of the trade — and with not enough English to feel confident either.
Today I replaced my second hot water tank completely on my own, without constant supervision or guidance. I understand how the system works and the steps needed to replace both electric and gas hot water tanks.
It took me two and a half years to feel comfortable doing this kind of work and communicating in a language I’ve only been learning for three years.
Of course, I still don’t know a lot, and my communication skills could be better. But no one can stop me from being proud of what I’ve achieved in a relatively short period of time.
Every achievement like this looks different to everyone.
For some, it might seem small or even funny. For others, it might spark jealousy. Some might think it’s not big enough or not successful enough — while for someone else, it might be the motivation to try something new.
