Traditionally known as a 'naatsit', the seal fur thong is adorned with beads and would have been sewn together by a woman, for a woman.

According to Peter Toft, the National Museum of Denmark’s Greenlandic fur clothing expert, this beaded, furry thong was intended to be displayed not just during intimate moments, but in polite company. Inside the warm homes of the Greenlandic Inuit, a naatsit “was the only thing worn even when having guests or visiting the houses of other families,” says Toft. ”This shocked the Danish missionaries of the 18th and 19th century, who tried to convince the Inuit to wear European linen (longer) underwear indoors. This attempt was not very successful.”

Hey friends! It’s been a while since I posted anything on Devil May Wear. I have been taking a big break while I was in school. Just graduated with my Masters in Interdisciplinary Design and although I don’t have any textile news right now I wanted to share an event I thought you all might be excited about.

Mat Collective is hosting a FREE yoga class this Wednesday June 7th at 6:30 in Hadden Park (1905 Ogden Ave.)

If you haven’t been to a Mat Collective event before they are a fantastic, local organization that hosts yoga events all over town. This is their first of the 2023 season. Come down and join us for some yoga in the sun. Just make sure you sign up first to reserve a spot here: https://bookwhen.com/matcollective-classes/e/ev-s0pf-20230607190000

I love supporting local businesses and getting great ideas out there so I hope to see you all there (and at future events)!

Welcome Back! - Booking by Bookwhen Mat Collective is opening for the 2023 season and our 10th year. We are soft opening the season with a laid back yoga class with Drew. 60 minutes, all levels, trauma informed, free to participate.

Since we closed the store and I’ve been working on my masters I’m still excited to make beautiful pieces for all you lovely people but I am really trying to encourage people to buy less. I don’t want my art to be part of the over consumption problem. I want it to be part of a less is more (stuff) lifestyle and I want it to be special. I can’t force this on anyone but it’s something I think we should all consider working towards.

And in the meantime here’s an excellent list of no waste Christmas gift ideas as you consider the upcoming holiday season.
