In British Columbia, adults are required to complete a hormone readiness assessment in order to start gender-affirming hormone therapy. While primary care providers with appropriate training can offer this service, many people continue to rely on third-party assessors to access care.
This workshop offers a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach to offering hormone readiness assessments and care planning. Participants will learn a flexible, client-centred process that prioritizes informed consent and aligns with current standards of care.

Using an anti-oppression lens, we’ll explore how to support clients who experience racism, ableism, fatphobia, colonialism, and other intersecting forms of oppression as they navigate gender affirming care. The workshop covers pathways to hormone care in BC, along with practical strategies for advocacy, referrals, and navigating systemic barriers. Templates, forms, and sample reports aligned with WPATH Standards of Care (Version 8) will be provided.
Participants are also invited to reflect on how their own social location shapes their clinical practice and wellbeing in this work.

By the end of the workshop, participants will feel more confident supporting trans, nonbinary Two-Spirit and other gender expansive adults in accessing gender-affirming hormone care.

This workshop is intended for clinical counsellors, social workers, nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals with foundational experience working with trans, nonbinary, and Two-Spirit clients. It is delivered in a small-group Zoom format and includes a mix of teaching and interactive breakout discussions.

I know many of us are struggling with the news of Nex Benedict's death. For those of you who may not have seen the media reports yet, Nex was a 16 year old Choctaw nonbinary youth in Oklahoma, who died after being assaulted by other students in their school restroom.

For those of us who are trans, nonbinary or Two-Spirit ourselves, this loss is especially painful, and many of us may find our own trauma is activated. I hope you're able to step back and some time to care for yourself. If you're a cis person and you have capacity, this would be a good time to support your TNB2S+ colleagues. One simple but effective offering would be advocating and encouraging paid time off.

I'd like to offer a gentle and trauma-informed circle where those of us who are TNB2S+ ourselves, and who work with TNB2S+ youth, can share space and healing. I will be facilitating some gentle somatic work to help you connect with the wisdom of your body. If somatic work isn't a fit for you, you are still welcome to attend and witness, meditate, or whatever else feels right for you in the space.

This circle will take place over Zoom on Tuesday March 5th, at 6 pm PT. This offering is free, with donations gratefully accepted.

Registration is required. Please email me at [email protected] to RSVP if you would like to attend, with "RSVP March 5" in the title of your email..

You are welcome to share this with other youth workers, but I'm hoping to keep this group small and community focused. If we're not already connected, please share who you are in your RSVP.
