Chilkat Sound

Chilkat weaving is one of the most complex weaving techniques in the world. The styling and weaving technique of this blanket is passed down by Native oral histories and to have come from the creativity of the Coast Tsimshians, the Tlingit and Haida. A Chilkat robe can take a year to weave. Yellow and black are dominant colors in the weavings,

The men designed the pattern and made the pattern board and loom; the women gathered the bark, prepared the yarn, and wove the blanket. These blankets are intended to be worn by noble women and men for important ceremonies and dances.
