ππ₯ Back in the Saddle After an Incredible FDIC Atlantic - Fire Department Information Conference Atlantic Weekend! π₯π
After a successful and inspiring weekend at the FDIC Atlantic, our team at Sustainable Training SolutionsοΏΌ jumped right back into action with a double-header training weekend across Nova Scotia! πͺπ¨βππ©βπ
We had the privilege of spending time with the outstanding members of the Pictou Landing Fire Department as they hosted our Incident Scene Safety Officer (ISSO) Course. Participants spent the weekend sharpening their skills in risk assessment, firefighter safety, accountability, and incident scene managementβcritical components of every successful emergency response. π¨π¦Ί
At the same time, another STS team was hard at work at the Tatamagouche Fire Department delivering our Pump Operations Course. Students gained valuable hands-on experience with water supply operations, pump panel management, troubleshooting, and practical fireground applications. π§π
Seeing firefighters from across the province investing their time and energy into professional development continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. The dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to serving their communities was on full display all weekend long. ππ
But weβre not slowing down just yet! π
Next weekend brings another double-header as our instructors head to:
π Port Hawkesbury Fire Department for our Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) Program
π Noel District Fire Department to complete Weekend #2 of their Vehicle Extrication Course
With only one more training weekend after that, our team will be wrapping up an incredibly busy and successful first half of the 2026 training season before taking some well-earned downtime during July and August. βοΈποΈπ

ππ One Year of Sustainable Training Solutions ππ
This weekend marks a significant milestone for us at Sustainable Training Solutions (STS) β our first full year in business.
When we started this journey, our goal was simple: provide practical, professional, and sustainable training opportunities that would support the dedicated volunteer firefighters and emergency responders who serve communities across Nova Scotia.
Over the last 12 months, we have had the privilege of working alongside firefighters, officers, training coordinators, county associations, and fire departments from one end of the province to the other.
As a small local company founded by firefighters for firefighters, we are incredibly humbled by the response. Every registration, every course booking, every referral, and every conversation has helped us grow and continue investing in the future of fire service training in Nova Scotia.
While we are proud of what has been accomplished so far, we recognize that none of it would have been possible without:
π₯ The departments that trusted us with their training needs
π₯ The hundreds of firefighters who attended our programs
π₯ Our dedicated team of instructors and assistants who spend countless weekends away from their families delivering quality training
π₯ Our partners and supporters who have helped us expand opportunities for firefighters across the province
The first year has exceeded every expectation we had, and we are excited about what the future holds.
π If youβre attending FDIC Atlantic - Fire Department Information Conference Atlantic this weekend, be sure to stop by and visit us at our booth! Weβd love the opportunity to meet you, answer questions, discuss training opportunities for your department, and share some of the exciting initiatives we have planned for the future.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Nova Scotia Fire Service, for making our first year such an incredible success.
π Hereβs to Year Two and beyond! π

π Pump Operations Training Complete! π
This weekend marked the second and final weekend of Pump Operations training delivered by Sustainable Training Solutions - STS at the St. Peter's & District Volunteer Fire Department.
Building on the foundation established during Weekend #1, participants spent the weekend putting their knowledge into action through hands-on pump operations, drafting, relay pumping, and water supply management. The focus was on developing the skills and confidence required to efficiently move water where it is needed most when seconds count.
A well-trained pump operator is one of the most critical positions on the fireground. Their ability to provide a reliable water supply directly impacts firefighter safety and operational success. Through realistic training evolutions and practical exercises, participants were challenged to think critically, troubleshoot problems, and operate effectively under pressure.
Training like this strengthens not only individual firefighters but entire departments, ensuring they are better prepared to serve and protect their communities.
A huge thank you to all the participants for their commitment and dedication over both weekends, as well as the instructors and host department for making this training opportunity a success.
Congratulations to everyone on successfully completing the Pump Operations program! πππͺ

ππ₯ Tonight, our team from Sustainable Training Solutions and K&D Pratt Group Inc. had the opportunity to deliver the immersive FLAIM Firefighting & Virtual Reality Fire Extinguisher Training with the members of the North River and District Fire Brigade. π₯π
The advancement of technology within the fire service is opening the door to an entirely new level of firefighter training and development. The FLAIM VR training system provides firefighters with a highly realistic, hands-on experience that allows crews to practice critical decision-making, fire attack techniques, situational awareness, and extinguisher operations in a safe, controlled environment.
From live heat simulation and hose reaction feedback to realistic fire behaviour scenarios, this technology is changing how firefighters can train, learn, and build confidence before ever stepping onto a live fire training ground or emergency scene.
The engagement and excitement from everyone tonight was incredible to see. Itβs exciting to watch departments throughout Nova Scotia continue embracing innovative training opportunities that help improve firefighter safety, preparedness, and operational effectiveness.
A huge thank you to the members of the North River & District Fire Brigade for welcoming us into your hall tonight and for your commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
The future of firefighter training is here β and itβs impressive. ππ¨βππ₯

π We are officially back in action after the May Long Weekend break! π₯
This past weekend, Sustainable Training Solutions was proud to head to work with the East Hants Fire Service Association at the Noel and District Volunteer Fire Department to kick off Weekend #1 of our Vehicle Extrication Program.
The course brought together dedicated firefighters from theNoel and District Volunteer Fire Department,Kennetcook District Fire Department, Maitland & District Volunteer Fire Department, and Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Dept, all coming together with one common goal β improving skills, building teamwork, and enhancing emergency response capabilities for their communities. πͺπ
Over the weekend, participants worked through hands-on extrication, tool familiarization, patient access techniques, vehicle stabilization, and scene safety operations. Training like this is critical for preparing firefighters to respond effectively when seconds matter most.
Itβs always inspiring to see volunteer firefighters dedicate their weekends to continuing education and skill development while balancing work, family, and community commitments. The passion and commitment shown throughout the weekend was outstanding! π

π Another incredible weekend of training for the Nova Scotia Fire Service! π₯
This past weekend, Sustainable Training Solutions was proud to be working in two different counties alongside dedicated firefighters continuing to sharpen their skills and commitment to their communities. π¨βππ©βπ
In Richmond County (Strait Area Mutual Aid Association), we wrapped up Weekend #2 of our Principles of Vehicle Extrication Course hosted by the amazing team at Isle Madame Fire Department. Participants spent the weekend building confidence and hands-on skills in vehicle stabilization, patient access, tool operations, and rescue techniques. πβοΈ
Meanwhile in Municipality of Cumberland, another one of our instructor teams was hard at work delivering Fire Investigation for First Responders at Pugwash Fire Department. Members from across the area came together to learn the fundamentals of scene preservation, fire cause indicators, evidence awareness, and the critical role firefighters play during investigations. ππ₯
With a combined 38 participants training across two separate regions, it is clear the passion, professionalism, and dedication within the Nova Scotia Fire Service remains stronger than ever. These firefighters continue to give up evenings, weekends, holidays, and valuable family time β all to better serve and protect the citizens of Nova Scotia. That level of commitment does not go unnoticed. πͺβ€οΈ
As we head into the May long weekend, we hope firefighters across the province get an opportunity to slow down, recharge, and spend some well-deserved time with family and friends. You have absolutely earned the rest! βοΈποΈ
Thank you again to all participants, host departments, and our incredible instructor team for another successful weekend of training.
