Literally every three seconds while I’m painting my brain is like maybe this could become this thing or that thing, or thinking of ways that I could turn this into a product or market this and it’s so interesting to watch. My goal for this month with painting is just to get back into it and to play, and because I have spent the last few years really building my business, which I am so grateful for, and has been its own exciting experience, it has also taken a toll on my creative process. And to be honest, that battle between business and art has been a challenge since my art went from hobby to job 12 years ago!
The past few years I’ve been living more as a business owner than an artist. I’ve really expanded my wholesale operation and been focused on trade shows and catalogs and keeping up with orders. That’s OK !because seasons of life change, and there is a need to put on that business hat to keep it all going, but, it’s so easy when things get busy to forget what the root of it is!
I know anyone who is self-employed creative. Understands this ebb and flow between heart and hustle. But for me, I really feel a deep yearning to get back to this part of myself. Not just paint items on my checklist for products I want to complete, but just to get back to playing with no real purpose other than to say “ooohhh” like a kid when paint hits paper the right way.
I guess part of it is maybe sharing it in a messy unfiltered caption that maybe two people will read or maybe 200 people will read and either way it’s totally fine. And fighting the urge to be like “comment below if you can relate!” 😆 🇨🇦
