10 years ago I started my photography business by focusing on what brought me the most joy.

I always loved working with kids. I was the babysitter, the camp counsellor, and started working part time at a daycare when I was 16. I loved all types of photography and tried my hand at landscape, fashion, weddings and so on, but photographing kids is where I felt most confident and where I had the most FUN!

So 10 years ago, I ditched the business name “Kayla Robins Photo” and turned it into The Robins Nest - specializing in capturing your family tree - and never looked back!

My top tips when preparing for your newborn session…. 1. Find your vision!! Look through newborn photos that resonate with you to decide if you’d like the photos to be at home or in the studio & what type of shots you have in mind
2. Get your outfits ready! Prepare a few options. It’s best to have your baby IN an outfit already before the session begins
3. Feed your baby just before the session. Getting in a good feed beforehand always helps a session go smoother, but no need to stress, we leave plenty of time to take feeding breaks if needed throughout
4. Put aside any special items you may want included in the shots, whether it be a hand knitted baby blanket, or a family heirloom. This is not necessary but a great way to add a personal touch to some shots!
5. Sit back and let me do the rest! With extensive experience working in childcare, being trained in infant CPR and knowing every calming, soothing and posing technique in the book - I make sure capturing these early fleeting days are as stress free and enjoyable as possible
