The Pine Project

Spring wanderings are full of surprises 🌿🍄
Along the trail, we discovered a Jack-in-the-Pulpit blooming through the forest floor, a toad hidden in an animal burrow tucked beneath the roots, and a mushroom that revealed itself to be a Morel (identifiable by a hollow interior) when we carefully cut it open.
Moments like these spark curiosity, observation, and questions that lead to deeper learning:
Who made this burrow?
Who lives here?
What signs can we find nearby?
At Pine, spring is a season of slowing down, noticing details, and building meaningful connections with the natural world through hands-on exploration and wonder.

Last weekend, our Teen Wilderness Adventure group paddled out for one final backcountry trip of the season. 🌲🛶
After spending the first night at a familiar campsite, the group set out to explore the lake in search of a new place to call home for future adventures. Together, they discovered a beautiful new site where they built fire pits, created debris shelters and tarp shelters, and spent the night immersed in the rhythms of the land.
In a time when young people are spending less time outside and more time on screens, nature gives teens space to slow down, collaborate, problem-solve, and discover what they’re capable of. Through challenge, teamwork, and time unplugged in nature, teens build confidence, resilience, connection, and a deeper sense of belonging in the natural world.
We’re feeling grateful for this incredible group and all the growth, laughter, campfires, and adventures shared this season. 💚
If you'd like to join us at Outdoor School this fall, registration begins on May 20th at noon! Click here to learn more: https://pineproject.org/programs/school-year-programs/

Nature changes lives. Meaningful time outdoors with caring mentors helps children build confidence, resilience, connection, and a deep relationship with the natural world. But not every child has access to these experiences. 🌿
That’s why this spring, Pine staff, board, and community members are taking part in Sit-a-thon, spending intentional time sitting in nature and raising funds for Pine’s Bursary Fund. It’s a meaningful act of care and leadership, rooted in a shared belief that all children deserve the chance to connect with nature, not just those who can afford it.
Right now, all gifts are being matched. đź’š Donate at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-pine-project/p2p/sitathon2026/
What makes Pine’s Red Wolf Overnight Camp so unique? 🌲🏕️
Camp Manager Owain shares how campers (ages 7–16) live backcountry in community, take on real responsibility, and grow through challenge by choice. From cooking meals and caring for one another outdoors to swimming in the lake and playing games in the woods, Red Wolf gives young people the chance to build confidence, resilience, connection, and a deeper sense of what they’re capable of.
It’s not a traditional camp, and it’s not a full canoe trip. It’s something in between: immersive backcountry living, lots of fun, strong community, and transformative outdoor experiences that stay with kids long after summer ends. 🌿
There are still a few spots left in select weeks this summer. Come disconnect from screens, build meaningful friendships, learn outdoor skills, and experience life outside in a whole new way.

We’ve been loving the warmer weather (that's joined us most days, even if it takes a little while to show up!) and the new opportunities it’s been bringing. 🌱🌦
Glove-less time for crafting, jumping in puddles, checking out new buds on the trees, long wanders, and even building our own “natural gardens” so we can track changes over time. It’s sparked all kinds of new conversations and curiosities along the way.
We can’t wait for the spring weeks and new discoveries ahead. 🌼
Registration for Outdoor School 2026/27 opens soon. If you’re thinking about joining us next school year, keep an eye out for more details here and at pineproject.org.
