Sometimes movement-building looks like a room full of students realizing they are not doing this work alone.

Last year’s Training Institute brought together student leaders from across Canada, many of whom had been organizing, fundraising, hosting conversations, and building chapters on their own campuses without ever being in the same room as the broader network.

Over one weekend, that changed.
They left with new tools, new relationships, and a clearer sense of the urgency and possibility of acting for global health equity.

This year’s Training Institute is coming up 💙
Applications for the 2026 SPIHC Training Institute close June 30. Read more about last year’s Training Institute through the link in the bio.

Did you know traditional birth attendants were once banned from delivering babies in Sierra Leone?

The policy was meant to move births into clinics and hospitals. But it raised a harder question:

What happens when the person a mother trusts most is pushed out of the care system?

In Kono, PIH’s answer was to embrace TBAs and support them in connecting pregnant women to prenatal care, accompanying them to health facilities, and supporting earlier referrals when complications arise.

Because it is in the conjunction of both community trust and high quality medical care that we reach the outcome we desire: safe births.

Right now and until June 30th, every dollar you donate will be doubled thanks to a generous donor. Link in bio.
