Movement Arts
I see a lot of info out there telling people “do these 5 exercises for better extensions” or “ you need more hip flexor /psoas strength.”
And while there is some truth in these statements, it’s not the whole picture.
I like to think in terms of MOVEMENT PATTERNS. Not what muscles need to be stretched or strengthened. Because when your brain has a clear map of your joints and knows how to move them optimally, flexibility and strength are a natural outcome.
Working with movement patterns is actually a lot simpler, saves time and gets better results.
And often the conditioning work we do doesn’t translate into our dancing because we haven’t actually taught the brain new movement patterns.
It’s one thing to activate your glute in a Pilates class but have you taught your glute to respond everytime to step onto one leg? While moving slow/ fast? And with all the other variables we encounter as performers?
Okay so there is more to it than you thought… 😉but don’t freak out. We know it can feel like there is an endless list of things to work on and keep up with.
This work will simplify things for you.
And if you’re putting in the work but not feeling ease and lightness in your dancing, let’s talk… because I promise you Lily and I have solutions 🧠🧠
Let me know below if you felt a shift!! 😊 ⬇️
