Fr. Edgar Magallanes, SJ, national director of Jesuit Refugee Service Venezuela, was recently interviewed by CBC News about the back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela, and how the Jesuits are responding to the disaster. JRS is one of CJI’s Jesuit partners in Venezuela who have been providing humanitarian relief for the victims of the disaster. We are sharing the following video, with permission from CBC.

CJI calls on Canada to empower corporate watchdog, not scrap it: https://bit.ly/4p1eEap

Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) joins the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) in expressing deep concern over the Government of Canada’s decision to eliminate the Office of the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE).

We invite our supporters to join us in urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to reverse this decision and to strengthen, rather than weaken, Canada's commitment to human rights and environmental justice. Take action here: https://cnca-rcrce.ca/take-action/

Venezuela 2026 earthquake 06/29/2026

Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) is still accepting donations to support humanitarian relief efforts in northern Venezuela. The region was hit by back-to-back earthquakes on June 24, leaving thousands of people in urgent need of assistance and causing widespread destruction. The death toll has been rising as search efforts continue.
Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), Fe y Alegria, and other CJI Jesuit partners in Venezuela are already on the ground: providing emergency support to individuals and families affected by the earthquakes, including temporary shelter, essential relief items, protection services, and psycho-social support.
Here is a compilation of some videos that they sent, showing the extent of the destruction.
