Toronto’s condo market may look oversupplied today… but the bigger problem could be what happens next. 🏙️

For the first time ever, the GTA recorded zero new condo project launches in Q1 2026. Not low… zero. At the same time, condo sales collapsed to levels we haven’t seen in decades.

Most people see today’s inventory and assume prices will stay weak for years. But real estate works on a delayed pipeline.

What gets built today determines what exists in 2028, 2029, and beyond, and right now, that future pipeline is drying up fast.

Here’s why that matters:
Toronto is still projected to face a massive rental housing shortage over the next decade, and condos have historically supplied the majority of new rental inventory across the GTA.

So when condo construction slows down, rental supply slows down with it.
That’s why today’s market weakness could eventually create the exact opposite problem: not enough housing supply.

The market may feel slow today… but the long-term story is becoming much bigger than most people realize. 📉➡️📈
