There is a family legend that two of my Irish ancestors escaped the law by dressing as women when they fled to Newfoundland.

The Irish are a resilient, creative, warm, musical people and I’m always happy to have an excuse to celebrate them.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Today I said goodbye to my sweet, gentle, beautiful girl. We weren’t expecting her to go so soon.

Grief and sadness are a testament to love and a reminder of the inherent impermanence of life.

Hug your people, hug your pets. Life truly is only and all about love.

There is a place that I visit when in London. It is West Brompton cemetery, an atmospheric Victorian garden of the dead. I love to sip a latte and stroll among the crows and daffodils and lazily read a little of London’s history.

One of the notable women buried there is Emmeline Pankhurst, a courageous human who organized the British suffragette movement.

She reminds me of the shoulders that we stand on, no matter where we live or where we were raised. The fierce, the brave, the suffering, the loyal, the inspiring women who have gone before us.

I am filled with gratitude to them.

We must continue to protect and expand the rights of women and girls, at home and worldwide.

Happy International Women’s Day!
