Ontario pharmacists can prescribe for Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye.
It is an extremely common eye condition and is highly contagious. Symptoms include redness, itching, burning, and a watery discharge.
Pink eye can be caused by a virus, bacteria, allergies, or an irritant such as dirt or smoke.
Non-pharmacological treatments for pink eye include using a cold compress or artificial tear drops to reduce redness and irritation. Avoiding exposure to irritants and allergens is also important. Additionally, it is important to practice good hygiene, including frequent hand-washing, to avoid spreading the infection.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include antibiotics, antihistamines, decongestants, or steroid eye drops
