Join Anakbayan Toronto as we hold our HINDIpendence Day Artbuild! We’ll be creating pinatas of Bato dela Rosa, Sara Duterte and Bongbong Marcos!

It has been 128 years since the declaration of the Philippines' Independence day, but is the Philippines truly free? While the Philippine government enriches themselves with their people’s money, millions of Filipinos face growing inflation and oil price hikes. Marcos Jr. is a puppet of the US, inviting Canadian and American troops to conduct military exercises in our homelands, destroying the local environment and disrupting the livelihoods of locals. The Philippines can not truly be free as long as its fascist government collaborates with the US.

As Filipino youth, we must continue to speak out against the injustices that keep our people poor! We will continue to Arouse, Organize, and Mobilize towards genuine national democracy, peace and liberation for all people.

Join us for an educational discussion, food, art and connections with other like-minded Filipinos! Please note that this event is a potluck so we encourage attendees to bring food/snacks for sharing!

Anakbayan Toronto vehemently opposes the brutal attack on Negros Occidental that took place on April 19th which have left 19 civilians dead, and over 600 innocents displaced from their homes.

Among those killed were student leader Alyssa Alano and people’s journalist RJ Ledesma. RJ and Alyssa dedicated their lives to struggling for a better, brighter tomorrow for all Filipinos, both back home and those forced to migrate around the world. Their devotion to the people lives on in every single Filipino youth that joins the fight for national democracy and land reform in the Philippines.

As Filipino youth in so-called Toronto, we feel deeply connected to the youth activists who have lost their lives. It is our responsibility to put an end to Canada’s complicity in the US-backed Marcos-Duterte regime. To take a stand against the Carney government’s enthusiastic participation in this year’s Balikatan war games, which are just a piece of the brutal military machinery that killed RJ, Alyssa, and the thousands of others who have lost their lives to extrajudicial killings by the Philippine state.

CANADA OUT OF THE PHILIPPINES!
Reject and resist the US-Marcos-Duterte regime!
Justice for Alyssa Alano!
Justice for RJ Ledesma!
Defend Negros!

Last month we hosted a screening of EDJOP, a film about Edgar Joseph (Edjop), a student activist during Marcos Sr.’s fascist regime that left a legacy on the revolutionary history of the Philippines. Today 40 years ago in 1986, EDSA People Power I occured, before Edjop could see the fruits of the people’s struggle unite into the ousting of Marcos Sr.

Remembering EDSA People Power I reminds us that change is not made by the individual, but by those who choose to organize and mobilize for change! Join us in the struggle, join Anakbayan!
