Jacques Descoteaux

My painting « The Light Still Shines » is a departure from my usual work, yet, unmistakably my own. It was inspired by artist Gwen Tooth. It is part of Intangible Experiences, an exhibition of abstract art held at Toronto’s Propeller Art Gallery from March 25 to April 12, 2026. For more information, visit to gallery site (see below).

Two of my recent mixed media works are heading to Toronto’s Propeller Art Gallery this February for Eureka!. The exhibition will be held from February 11 to March 1st, 2026. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, February 14.

These pieces grew out of a fascination with image transfers. They are a continuation of the series I created for the BRAVO exhibition “NFT(s): Passages,” which was held at the Ottawa Art Gallery in 2024.

I worked on cradled panels, with acrylics and black paper printed on a laser printer. The ink from the laser printer, when it is transferred to the surface, creates random shapes, allowing for the acrylic paint to show.

Deux de mes récentes œuvres multimédias seront exposées à la Propeller Art Gallery de Toronto en février dans le cadre de l’exposition Eureka!. L’exposition se tiendra du 11 février au 1er mars 2026. Le vernissage aura lieu le samedi 14 février.
Ces œuvres sont nées d’une fascination pour les transferts d’images. Elles s’inscrivent dans la continuité de la série que j’ai créée pour l’exposition BRAVO « NFT(s) : Passages », qui s’est tenue à la Galerie d’art d’Ottawa en 2024.
J’ai travaillé sur des panneaux encadrés, avec de l’acrylique et du papier noir imprimé sur une imprimante laser. L’encre de l’imprimante laser, une fois transférée sur la surface, crée des formes aléatoires, laissant apparaître la peinture acrylique.

Je présenterai mon exposition individuelle « Entre la mer et le ciel » à la galerie Pierre Léon de l’Alliance française de Toronto.  L’exposition aura lieu du 6 au 19 décembre 2025.  L’Alliance française est située au 24 Spadina Rd., Toronto. Le vernissage se tiendra sur invitation le 5 décembre 2025. 

L’exposition comprendra 30 tableaux récents, dont ceux-ci.

Cill Rialaig, Co. Kerry , IRL. Oct. 2025

La version française suivra.

I have just completed my third artist residency at Cill Rialaig, on the west coast of Ireland. There is always a bit of magic in this place, where mythology, history, local traditions and 21st-century arts come together. This visit was particularly wonderful because I was able to get together with dear friends.

I usually work in oils for my paintings. For this residency, I decided to work in watercolour, without really knowing where it would take me. I must say that it has been ages since I last worked with watercolour. From memory, it was probably sometime at the beginning of the century.

I really enjoy working with a painting knife, so I brought a few with me.

Here are some pieces I created during my ten days at Cill Rialaig.

Je viens de terminer ma troisième résidence d’artiste à Cill Rialaig, sur la côte ouest de l’Irlande. Il y a toujours un peu de magie, à cet endroit où l’on retrouve la mythologie, l’histoire, les traditions locales, et les arts du 21ième siècle. Cette visite était particulièrement géniale puisque des amitiés qui se sont créées lors de la dernière résidence se sont renouvelées lors de celle-ci.

Pour mes tableaux, je travaille généralement à l’huile. Pour cette résidence, j’ai décidé de travailler à l’aquarelle, sans trop savoir où cela allait me mener. Je dois dire qu’il y a une éternité que je n’ai travaillé à l’aquarelle. De mémoire, c’était sans doute au début du siècle.

J’aime beaucoup travailler au couteau à peindre, alors j’en ai apporté quelques-uns.

Voici donc des pièces que j’ai créées au cours de mes dix jours à Cill Rialaig.
