Who grew up fetching water in buckets from a well or a muddy backdam where anacondas lived.
Who was educated in primary schools where teachers carried whips in their hands and used them on us, sometimes daily!
Who sometimes had to do homework or entertain yourselves during blackouts while mosquitoes bit and stung us!
So when you see us glowing, growing, and being celebrated - clap, instead of comparing.
We faced challenges that many born here have never experienced, and carried dreams bigger than our circumstances.
We survived. We persevered. We adapted.
And wherever life has taken us, we continue to strive, contribute, and succeed with purpose and positivity.

Educate your children and yourselves about the Caribbean-born soldiers who fought for Canada during WW1 and WW2.
One of whom was a veteran who made it possible for us to enjoy our Caribbean Carnival in Canada.
