🖼 The Seekers by Yael Brotman, part of our current exhibition Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation by The Gibson Girls

Brotman’s imagery acknowledges humanity’s ingenuity in constructing shelters and conveniences for ourselves, while juxtaposing images of nature’s resilience as antidotes to harm that our inventions can inflict. This subtext is layered with colour, humour, and a sense of hope that the resulting extreme climatic events and chaos in the world will be mitigated.

🖼 Join us this Saturday, May 30 from 2 – 4 pm for the opening reception of "Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation" by The Gibson Girls | A group show featuring art by M.J. Steenberg, Snaige Sileika, Liz Parkinson, Karen Curry, and Yael Brotman

Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation includes new environmentally-based artwork by each of the artists, as well as two group projects. In Roundtable (2025), the artists experimented with the circle in form and substrate while working together outdoors, as they had on canoe trips for thirty years. The group’s 2018-2022 mail art collaboration (600+ images) will also be shown in a new interactive iteration.

Through their long history together, the Gibson Girls each embody the ability to support, challenge, and learn from one another. This exhibition opens their conversation to others as a gesture of hope through communication and understanding in our continuing fraught times.

✨ Meet Vidhushini Nanjappan, a mixed media artist here at Propeller Art Gallery.

Vidhushini is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist working across mixed media, sculptural painting, drawing, and found objects. Her abstract practice explores materiality, structure, and form through experimentation with diverse materials and processes. With a background in fashion design, her practice evolved from garment construction to visual art, where her interest in texture, composition, and three-dimensional form continues to shape her work. She creates sculptural forms and three-dimensional illusions from two-dimensional surfaces, blending traditional and contemporary techniques. She experiments with a wide range of materials, including plaster, metal wire, found objects, and industrial materials, using them to explore the deeper meanings of life and human experience. Her work has been exhibited at Propeller Art Gallery, Gallery 1313, Northern Contemporary, and Gerrard Art Space, as well as at the Manayunk Art Festival, where she received the Best in Mixed Media award.
