Today we are 13!🎉

As the universe would have it, I’ve had the chance to reflect recently, on some of my original retail inspirations and role models.

From a surprise weekend visit from , owner of the cooler than cool 1980s Toronto postcard store “XOX” (IYKYK) - to another recent, spot-on “musing” from retail magician to this morning’s funny (& also spot-on) attempt by sisters & co-owners, Amy & Beth to define what their fabulous NYC store, “IS” - (“a place to connect” yes!🩷) these are some of the shop owners who have found the magic sweet spot we all hope to create.

It’s true that we all have to make our own magic, but the way these women did it and are doing it is a constant inspiration and reminder to keep trusting your instincts and to always do it your own way

You, our lovely, loyal, long-time regulars and new customers and supporters alike, are of course, a big part of that retail magic. Thank you for finding us, “getting” us and continuing to make us part of your world.

We will celebrate our 13th soon, with bubbles & nibbles, at our annual festive shopping night on Dec. 10.

In the meantime, for those of you who might not know or follow , here is one of her recent musings on why we do what we do.

“This morning I caught a glimpse of the store front. The light was perfect and drizzly. Everywhere grey and quiet. My favorite time of day and, to my surprise I fell, once again, in love with 6 Birch. In love with the old tin ceiling, the windows that rarely attract a passerby. How many times do folks wander in and ask…”is this a new store?” Or…”how long have you been here?” or “do you make everything in here?” We, who are retailers are a foolish and lucky bunch. I think we have a mystical side, or perhaps it’s denial that allows us to fall in love with a storefront on a grey, wet morning. Knowing well that retail is an odd mix of chance and determination. “

Thank you Joanne, Susan, Beth & Amy and all the other shop and business owners who create the collections, the vibe and the magic that make their spaces unique.
