TFWP PROGRAM BECAME TOUGHER IN 2025.
Employers need to be aware of the important updates to Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program —or TFWP, especially after September 2024, that could impact hiring decisions and business operations.

This program is a stringent process in place to ensure that Canadian workers are always prioritized first.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. High-Wage LMIA can only be submitted at or above the provincial or territorial wage threshold, and this was increased by 20% in November 2024
2. Low-Wage LMIA with CAP cannot be submitted in Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA areas) where the employment rate is above 6% and those CMA areas that have been included in the updated unemployment table published periodically.

So, what does this mean for you as an employer?

First and foremost, you need to be sure that hiring a foreign worker is absolutely necessary, and you were not able to find a Canadian Citizen or PR for that job.

Before applying for any LMIA, it’s essential to ensure that you meet the requirements and eligibility criteria.

And make sure you remain compliant to avoid any future headaches for your business.

Getting the right guidance is essential to avoid delays or complications.

Stay informed. Stay compliant. And hire smart.
