Empathy Events Beauty for the Public Good Event

01/23/2018

WARNING: GRAPHIC POST

How do you carry on when someone you love is missing?

Because it’s not socially acceptable to wail in public, maybe you stay indoors.

Maybe the pain is so paralyzing that when you open your mouth to scream you have no voice.

How do you sleep? I imagine you can’t. So you choose: insomnia or nightmares?

When waking hours seem like a “living hell,” it is hard to breath, walk or talk. So I’m sure you take refuge in the memories, the smells, the cadence of your beloved’s voice.

How ever one survives — on a mountaintop, or trying to stay afloat in isolation — our work, as witnesses to the pain, is the same: never, ever be a bystander.

HOW DO WE PRACTICE EMPATHY?

One would be mistaken to believe empathy is about casually stepping into someone else’s shoes.

Without movement towards something greater than oneself, what’s called empathy is actually masquerading for pity.

True empathy has no masks because it makes you One with the people experiencing pain.

This is what you need to know:

Jesse Galganov, a 22 year old backpacker from Montreal, is missing. It’s been over 113 days since he was last seen.

Because we — as sentient human beings —are all interconnected, a part of us is missing too.

You can act out your empathy in these ways:

1. Click GOING to Empathy Events’s for Jesse II. Register to bake and pray from the comfort of your own home.

2. Share this post and write to help spread the word and index our impact

3. Donate or buy raffle tickets to help find Jesse at www.empathyevents.com

ABOUT THIS PAINTING

Art is a secret language, translating our deepest longings and despair into visual expression.

This leads me to my friend Anne Maizia or Maizianne - Art Gallery. An extraordinary artist and person, Anne offered to donate Scream to our / to Help Us Find Jesse.

The painting is valued at $5,000 USD. When Anne, who is based in NY, offered to donate it to the search for Jesse, I was so moved I started to cry. I knew that only someone with a heart that could create a painting this profound would have the soul to let it go in service to something higher than herself.

Please follow Anne on social media, then follow her lead to give as much as you can. Purchase a Raffle Ticket to help bring Jesse home: www.empathyevents.com.

If we receive a donation over $5,000, Scream will be suspended from the raffle and the donor will be entered into a separate auction for this painting. Anyone who donates $5k will also be entered.

People buying raffle tickets will have access to the $5,000 remainder of raffle prizes.

100% of proceeds from our Raffle will go towards efforts to bring Jesse Galganov home.

With thanks to Anne’s brilliance and talent,
Kim Smiley
