We’ve been receiving calls and comments about potholes.

Potholes become more common as temperatures fluctuate. With the warmer weather over the last few days combined with freezing temperatures, water seeps into the asphalt through cracks in the road. Then when it freezes again, that water expands and lifts sections of the pavement. As cars drive over those weakened spots, the asphalt breaks apart, creating potholes.

We’re seeing a higher volume of pothole requests this year than in previous years.

City crews are on it and routinely repair pothole and road damage during ongoing routine patrols and repair operations.

City crews continue to work around the clock plowing roads, sidewalks and bikeways, with priority given to emergency routes and major corridors.

Due to the volume of snow, progress may take longer than usual, please be patient.

➡️Keep a safe distance from crews to allow them to do their work
➡️Check on neighbours and loved ones, help clear sidewalks, driveways, stairs and ramps for people nearby who need assistance.
