Pearls from the latest conferences, publications, and events!

Event: 2026 International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health (ICIMH) held from April 20-23 in Salt Lake City, Utah, US
Category: Clinical trials
Area: Gut health
Theme: Natural interventions and Inflammatory bowel disease

Summary (OA-06.04): A randomized, triple-masked, placebo-controlled Phase 2 clinical trial of Xanthohumol (a polyphenolic compound from hops) was conducted in human participants with Crohn’s disease under an FDA-approved Investigational New Drug (IND). It was found that Xanthohumol at 24 mg/day was easily tolerated in adults with active Crohn’s disease, and changes in BMI and GGT may indicate favorable effects on hepatic and metabolic health.

In a meta-analysis, a sensitivity analysis is a set of additional analyses designed to answer the question:

"Are the main findings robust to reasonable changes in the assumptions, methods, or included studies?"

If the pooled effect remains similar after these changes, you can be more confident that your conclusions are not driven by a particular methodological choice or a small number of influential studies.

Event: 2026 International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health (ICIMH) held from April 20-23 in Salt Lake city, Utah, US

Category: Clinical trials
Area: Oncology
Theme: Mind-body practices in cancer survivors
Oral Abstracts (OA) presentation:

OA. 02. 01.: Cancer survivors with non-metastatic cancer can increase multiple aspects of coping with fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) through interventions such as IN FOCUS that teach mind-body resiliency techniques in comparison to the usual care. A single-blinded, 2-arm, randomized controlled trial was conducted to compare IN FOCUS (8 weekly, 90-minute, synchronous virtual group classes teaching cognitive behavioral techniques, relaxation training, meditation, adaptive health behaviors, and positive psychology skills) to usual care involving synchronous virtual community group support referral.

OA. 02.03.: The MATCH (Mindfulness and Tai Chi for Cancer Health) study, a partially-randomized, patient-preference, comparative effectiveness trial was conducted to understand the effects of Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) and Tai Chi/Qigong (TCQ) post-cancer treatment in distressed people with different types and stages of cancer. MBCR and TCQ both improved fatigue and pain interference at post-intervention, and TCQ also improved sleep quality in cancer survivors as compared to waitlist controls.
