I make travel plans and always wish I could cancel last minute, but I go in spite of my discomfort and am always happy I did. Many of my favourite pictures happen during travels and I’ll be sharing a selection of them at 43 Front St E starting this Friday through the end of May with a reception on March 27! CLOSE TO HOME is a collection of work by photographer Simon Remark that represents geographical, emotional, and spiritual closeness to the artist.

For a decade and a half, Simon has been a wedding and portrait photographer, but what he loves most is street photography and rural landscapes. Most of his personal work is captured on film.

His work draws inspiration from music, literature and film. Simon has been most inspired by filmmakers such as Spike Lee, Wim Wenders, and Wong Kar Wai. He is drawn to images that reflect the human condition and spiritual movement from darkness to light.

The photos exhibited at 99 frames are contemplative works that were taken during a time of mental health difficulty while going through a divorce and navigating life with OCD. The images have played a key part in healing and recovery.

Simon is heavily invested in social justice initiatives — for every twenty five dollars spent on his work, a meal will be provided to someone in need through Provisions by Valerie, a social venture that seeks to increase food accessibility in the city.
