The safety and security of frontline staff, employees, visitors, and patients isn’t just a “big city” concern. Creating and maintaining safe environments matters everywhere, especially in communities where people rely on those spaces for care and support.

This past week, I deployed walk‑through metal detectors and handheld screening wands, along with training on best‑practice screening procedures, across three Healthcare facilities in Northern Saskatchewan on the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation following the completion of installations at many other hospitals across Saskatchewan.

It’s unfortunate, but the realities of drugs, alcohol, weapons, and gang activity can surface in places we’d never expect. Strengthening safety measures isn’t about fear — it’s about preparedness, protection, and ensuring that everyone who walks through the door is entering a secure environment.
