I wish I could've went to Desi functions in full glam when I was younger. Instead, I was constantly policed by folks close to me to tone down my q***rness. I cannot begin to explain how detrimental this was for my mental health and how much it delayed my growth as a q***r person. Not only was my physical appearance being monitored, my mannerisms and speech were too. Even foundation to cover up acne scars was seen as too feminine by some. These are things I'm unpacking NOW - in my 30's. 🥲 hi therapy.

Be kind to your lil q***r kids (and adults!), let them express themselves. They need all the love they can get. 💕
